The 2024 regular season is set to begin in September for the NFL. That leaves three months for teams to fine-tune their roster and start preparing for the new year.
There are always different avenues to find talent and NFL squads will go down those tunnels to see if there is something on the other side.
While NFL teams are in mandatory minicamps, the UFL playoffs are happening right now. This spring football league has a bunch of talented guys who can compete for roster spots in the NFL.
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips is the current head coach of the San Antonio Brahmas.
His team defeated the St. Louis Battlehawks 25-15 as they advanced to the UFL Championship Game. Despite winning this game, Phillips made sure to let one of the best players in the league know that he’ll vouch for him to some NFL coaches.

In the postgame of the XFL Conference Championship Game, Phillips grabbed St. Louis WR Hakeem Butler and said, “I’m going to tell everyone in the NFL that I talk to, you need to be playing”.
Butler is coming off a monster season with the Battlehawks, where he was an All-XFL selection and was named the UFL’s first offensive player of the year.
He finished with 45 receptions for a league-high 652 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. His dynamic playmaking ability helped him secure a workout with the Carolina Panthers.
Butler was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. His only game action came with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 before spending some time with the Pittsburgh Steelers briefly last offseason.
Now after an explosive spring season with the Battlehawks, he now has a chance to stick onto another NFL roster.
Having an exceptional coach like Phillips back you up is always a good thing too.
