ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

After signing an undrafted free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year, Mizzou Football alum Cody Schrader also now has the opportunity to take his talents to the United Football League (UFL). The former consensus NCAA All-American was selected in the second round of the UFL College Draft by his hometown team: the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Schrader was eligible for the UFL Draft since he only signed as an undrafted free agent, following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft. The St. Louis native will be competing for a spot on San Francisco’s 53-man roster during the team’s training camp this summer. However, if the former first-team All-SEC selection eventually chooses to play professional football in the UFL, the Battlehawks will have exclusive rights to invite Schrader to the team.

The Lutheran South High School graduate had a storybook season to close out his collegiate football career. Not only did the 2023 Burlsworth Trophy winner lead the SEC in rushing, he also broke Mizzou’s single-season rushing record, recording 1,627 yards over 13 games. He also tallied 14 touchdowns in his final campaign as a Mizzou Tiger.

The San Francisco 49ers’ rookie class all reported to training camp on Tuesday as they begin their audition for a roster spot. Schrader will maintain his UFL eligibility for the spring unless he signs a contract with an NFL team.
