The San Francisco 49ers had a roster spot open after they placed Drake Jackson on the Reserve/PUP list on Thursday afternoon. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted the Niners signed Jonathan Garvin from the Birmingham Stallions.

This past season, Garvin finished with 3.5 sacks and a tackle for loss in the UFL. He also had two batted passes and two forced fumbles, to go along with 19 tackles in ten games.

Garvins, listed at 6’4, 257 pounds, was on the Green Bay Packers roster from 2020-2022, where he appeared in 25 games. Garvin registered 30 tackles, three for a loss, and 1.5 sacks, per Sports Info Solutions.

The 25-year-old will provide some youth during training camp and, if he stands out during the preseason, have a chance to make the roster. He also gives the 49ers another camp body so they don’t have to put miles on the body of Nick Bosa or Leonard Floyd — two players who have not participated much during training camp.

Bosa has sat out plenty of team reps, and for good reason. When he’s in there, he causes chaos, and the offense can rarely accomplish what it wants.
