Fact or Fiction: Will a Big 12 Football Team Go 9-0?

Welcome to Fact or Fiction Friday. Each Friday, I give our Facebook and message board fans an opportunity to ask the most intriguing questions in the Big 12 Conference, and I will tell you whether they come true or if they are set to fail. Now let’s crack it open and see what we have in store this week.

Colorado Makes a Bowl Game

Fiction: I know that there are a ton of betting tickets out there that have Colorado winning the Big 12 but I am not one of those people. In fact, I think Colorado is in for a bit of a rude awakening this season. While I do like the Shedeur Sanders/Travis Hunter combination, there are just so many question marks about this team. The trenches were a big problem last season and that isn’t necessarily something you can fix by cleaning house and filling it in with transfer portal guys. I have the Buffaloes finishing 11th in the Big 12 which means that they will likely be 4-8 or 5-7 when the season ends.

Someone Will Go 9-0 In Big 12 Play

Fiction: There are some great teams in this conference, but nobody is going to go undefeated in Big 12 play. This conference is the deepest conference in all of college football and it is just hard for me to imagine someone going through it without a single scratch. Now we will see a team with just one loss or two meet up in Arlington? Probably but to go 9-0 in the Big 12 is extremely difficult to do. This conference is an absolute meat grinder.

Utah Will Go 11-1 During The Regular Season

Fact: I am one of those people who believes that Utah will win the Big 12. I mentioned them in my summer series as one of the top three teams in the conference. They have a very favorable schedule and if I had to pick where they will slip up, I would say it’s going to either happen in Stillwater or Orlando.

Oklahoma State will have a better record than Oklahoma

Fact: With the Sooners off to the SEC, there is zero chance of them winning nine or ten games this season. I know Oklahoma State’s win total was set at 7.5 but they are at least a nine or ten-win team. I have the Cowboys in my top three. I am sorry Oklahoma fans but you aren’t going to even finish in the top half of the SEC this season.

Utah Will Win the Big 12

Fact: I mentioned earlier that the Utes are my pick to win the Big 12 Conference. They have one of the best defenses not just in the Big 12 but in the entire country. Offensively, they get quarterback Cam Rising back and well as tight end Brant Kuithe. Plus, they return a few key starters and brought in a couple of solid guys from the transfer portal. To me, they are the most complete team in the conference and when you combine that with a softer schedule, they have to be the favorites in my opinion.

Brett Yormark should rethink next year’s scheduling to continue the longest continually played rivalry in college football

Fact: Brett Yormark doesn’t miss very often or ever for that matter but there is no doubt that not making Farmageddon as a protected rivalry game is a huge miss for the conference. While I am glad that we will get at least one more game after this season in Ireland of all places, at least it’s being played. These two schools have played every year since 1917, and it’s a shame that the streak will come to an end in 2026. I feel like we have enough time to get this fixed. This is one of the best rivalries in the Big 12, let’s not let it get away because of some silly scheduling. Make it happen.
