Texas won a key recruiting battle on Saturday when it landed a commitment from in-state five-star safety Jonah Williams.

The No. 10 recruit in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite, Williams chose the Longhorns over LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon and USC. He announced his decision in a ceremony at Courville Stadium at Galveston (Texas) Ball High School.

With Williams’ commitment, Texas moved up from 12th to seventh in the team rankings.

Williams is the second five-star recruit in Texas’ 2025 class and the Longhorns’ seventh commitment who ranks in the top 150 nationally. He officially visited LSU, A&M, Oregon, USC and Ohio State in June and took an unofficial visit to Texas on July 25.

Williams is also a baseball star as a pitcher and center fielder and is expected to be a 2025 MLB Draft prospect. His older brother, Nick Williams, was a second-round pick of the Texas Rangers in the 2012 draft.

Jonah Williams has played both receiver and defensive back for Ball High and was the district defensive player of the year as a junior, recording 58 tackles, four tackles for loss and four interceptions (with three pick sixes). He returned four combined punts and kickoffs for touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver.
