Getting access to your myPay account as a veteran is simple, but it’s crucial to stay on top of it, especially if you’re only logging in during tax season. myPay is a handy tool for managing your tax documents and keeping your retired pay or annuitant pay information up to date. Here’s how you can access and get started with myPay, even if you’ve lost or forgotten your password.

If you’re like many veterans who only log into myPay once a year to grab that all-important 1099-R, you might have faced the frustration of realizing your password has expired or been forgotten. The good news is, reactivating your account is a straightforward process, and it’s a good idea to do it now before tax season hits.

To reset your password, head over to the myPay website and click on the “Forgot or Need a Password?” link. You’ll need to provide two pieces of information, like your Login ID, Social Security Number, or registered email address. If you’ve set up security questions before, you’ll be asked to answer them, and if you answer correctly, you can reset your password right away.

If you haven’t set up the security questions or can’t remember the answers, don’t worry. You’ll have the option to receive a temporary password. This can be sent to your registered mobile phone via text, or to your mailing address. Once you get the temporary password, just log back into myPay and you’re all set.

Getting started with myPay

For veterans who haven’t yet set up a myPay account, getting started is easy. You can request an initial password from the homepage. Just click the “Forgot or Need a New Password” link, and a temporary password will be mailed to the address DFAS has on file. It takes about 10 business days for domestic addresses.

Once you’ve got your password in hand, go back to the myPay website, use your Social Security Number and the temporary password to log in, and then create your new myPay profile.

As a veteran, you’ll have access to your myPay account for 13 months after leaving service. Make sure to update your email and mailing addresses before you separate, and save a copy of your W-2s within that time frame.
