Angel Reese leaves Shaq 'jealous' over one LSU moment he never had

Shaquille O’Neal, one of the most dominant figures in basketball history, has achieved nearly everything one could dream of in the sport. However, despite his legendary career, there’s one thing that Angel Reese, LSU’s former star, has experienced that Shaq never did – a national championship parade.

During a recent episode of his podcast, O’Neal opened up about his admiration for Reese, who led LSU’s women’s basketball team to its first-ever NCAA championship in 2023. O’Neal, who played for LSU from 1989 to 1992, admitted he felt envious as he watched Reese and her team celebrated in style after their historic win.

“I was jealous,” Shaq said, reflecting on the championship parade. “Looking at all the people, I thought, man, I wish I could have had that moment back in my day.”

Though O’Neal enjoyed an illustrious career and won four NBA championships, his time at LSU didn’t include the coveted national title. For Reese, securing that milestone not only brought her praise but also a special place in LSU history. O’Neal has been vocal about calling Reese the greatest athlete to come out of LSU, a statement that stirred mixed reactions. “People might get mad, but championships are what define greatness,” Shaq explained.

Shaq has been crucial in Reese’s transition to the pros

Despite the playful envy, Shaq has supported Reese throughout her journey. Their bond, forged over Reese’s rise to stardom, includes some fun bets – such as Reese losing $100,000 to Shaq after betting he couldn’t make a free throw. With Reese’s career and influence continuing to grow, she’s set to achieve even more, while Shaq remains one of her biggest cheerleaders.

The 7-foot-1 icon may not have had his LSU parade, but seeing Reese succeed seems to have softened that blow.
