Police in Kabul reported that a suicide bomber attacked the Afghan capital on Monday, resulting in at least six deaths and 13 injuries. The explosion occurred in the southwestern Qala Bakhtiar neighborhood, according to Khalid Zadran, the spokesperson for the Kabul police chief.

Among the deceased was a woman, Zadran stated, while the 13 injured individuals, all civilians, were transported to a hospital for treatment.

An investigation by the police is ongoing. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The Islamic State group’s affiliate, a key adversary of the ruling Taliban, has previously orchestrated attacks on schools, hospitals, mosques, and Shiite communities across Afghanistan.

The Taliban, who regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021 following the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces after two decades, have since reimposed a strict interpretation of Islamic law, or Shariah, similar to their previous rule from 1996 to 2001, despite earlier assurances of a more moderate approach.
