The Arlington Renegades have added a defensive back, in the wake of WR JaVonta Payton being placed on IR. DB Cedric Anderson has signed with the team, out of Grambling State.

JaVonta Payton has been an integral piece to Chuck Long’s offense here in 2024. He burst onto the scene late during the XFL season a year ago, and helped Arlington win a Championship.
Payton is a deep threat, with five touchdowns on the year. He’s caught 23 passes for 379 yards, averaging 16.5 yards per reception.

Javonta Payton has had an excellent season – and honestly, it could be better without his five drops. Payton has missed on a couple of deep balls from Perez over the past few weeks. Outside of that, he’s been tremendous – and is someone Luis goes to often when looking for the long ball. According to PFF, Payton had an Offensive Grade of 63.8 through nine weeks.
With JaVonta Payton unavailable for the final game, it will give an opportunity to a guy like Isaiah Winstead to get more reps – someone who had an excellent performance a week ago.

DB Cedric Anderson
Cedric Anderson eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft, which is becoming a trend for certain teams signing fresh faces. Arlington is now bringing in someone who just played college football this fall and winter, as Anderson joins the secondary with one game left.

In the 2023 season with Grambling State, Cedric Anderson had 23 tackles and two interceptions. He played in the Hula Bowl this winter, and also was invited to the Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Mini Camp.

Prior to his time at Grambling State, Cedric played at Northwestern State. He tallied 68 tackles, 3.5 TFL’s, three interceptions, and 11 PBU’s across three seasons. Anderson has been noted by multiple NFL scouts as a prospect with plenty of talent, so we’ll see if the Renegades can get him involved in the game with just a few days of practice.
General Manager Rick Mueller has brought in some new talent over the course of the last couple weeks. Most recently, Arlington signed Jeremy Cox and James Jones IV. The Arlington Renegades will finish their season this Sunday, against the DC Defenders.
