Unfortunately, health concerns have caused him to step down from the role for the second time. He previously stepped down following the 2019 season before returning in 2021. The Bulldogs will still be in capable hands this season as head coach Tim Skipper takes over on an interim basis. The 46-year-old is a Fresno State alum and has over two decades of experience as a collegiate assistant.

Top Fresno State coach candidates
One name the BarkBoard staff has identified as a potential target if Skipper doesn’t keep the job long term is Arizona State offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo. The 44-year-old Sacramento native has deep West Coast ties after stops at San Jose State, California, Oregon and UNLV. His run as UNLV’s head coach from 2020-22 did not go well, but he faced challenges surrounding COVID. He’s a former assistant under Tedford at Cal, and he has NFL experience, coaching quarterbacks for the Buccaneers in 2014.
Arroyo took 2023 off and has a chance to rebuild his reputation as the OC at Arizona State this year, potentially putting him in the mix to take over at a program where Tedford still has a lot of sway. “If there’s a candidate that could have Jeff Tedford’s blessing away from the “Bulldog family,” it could be Arroyo,” said Moore.
