Bangladesh‘s ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina‘s daughter Saima Wazed on Thursday expressed anguish over the recent events in her country and said that she is “heartbroken” that she could not see her mother.
“Heartbroken with the loss of life in my country Bangladesh that I love. So heartbroken that I cannot see and hug my mother during this difficult time.I remain committed to my role as RD,” Saima said in a post on X.

The political landscape in Bangladesh has been in a state of flux since August 5, when Sheikh Hasina, the 76-year-old Awami League leader, submitted her resignation as Prime Minister amidst escalating protests.
The demonstrations, initially focused on the abolition of the quota system for government jobs, transformed into broader anti-government sentiments.
Following her resignation, Sheikh Hasina arrived at an airbase near Delhi on Monday and was subsequently relocated to a secure location in the city, accompanied by her sister Sheikh Rehana. In the wake of these developments, President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of Bangladesh’s parliament, paving the way for the establishment of an interim government.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed to lead this transitional administration.
