A Palestinian news agency has reported that an Israeli strike on a school in Gaza has killed at least 13 people. The school was sheltering displaced Palestinians in Al-Nuseirat in central Gaza, Reuters said.
The Israeli military has said that it was looking into the report.
Earlier, Reuters had reported citing a senior Hamas source that the terror group accepted a US proposal to start talks on releasing Israeli hostages. The hostages include soldiers and men. The militant group has abandoned its demand for Israel to commit to a permanent ceasefire before signing the agreement. Instead, negotiations to achieve this ceasefire will be allowed to take place during the initial six-week phase, according to the source who spoke to Reuters on the condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the talks.
A Palestinian official privy to the internationally mediated peace talks said the proposal could led to a framework agreement if embraced by Israel and would end the nine-month-old war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
An Israeli source said that this time there is a real chance for having an agreement.
Since Hamas attacked southern Israeli cities on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking around 250 hostages according to official Israeli figures, the conflict has claimed the lives of more than 38,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials.
