Jose Mourinho has brutally terminated a Fenerbahce player’s contract just days before a clash with former club Manchester United.

Mourinho was appointed Fenerbahce boss in June and wasted no time in putting his stamp on the side, bringing in a whole host of new players.

Key summer additions for the Turkish Super Lig giants include loans for Allan Saint-Maximin, Filip Kostic and Sofyan Amrabat, a deal for Sevilla striker Youssef-En Nesyri and the capture of veteran forward Cenk Tosun on a free transfer.

Fenerbahce are fourth after seven games in the league, having taken 16 points.

Their next game is a trip to on Samsunspor before a Europa League showdown with Mourinho’s former club United at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

But days before the meeting, Fenerbahce have announced that winger Ryan Kent’s time in Istanbul is over after 16 months.

The 27-year-old, a Liverpool academy product, joined the club in 2023 and penned a four-year deal.

But he played just 18 times in all competitions last season and found himself out of favour under Ismail Kartal, having been removed from their squad in February.

The situation didn’t change under Mourinho, who gave him just one start in a Champions League qualifier.

Despite interest from clubs in the summer, Kent stayed put and reports claimed Mourinho was furious with the former Rangers’ man’s refusal to move on.

There were claims about Kent demanding his salary be paid in full in order to leave but now a mutual agreement has been reached.

On social media, a club statement read: “The contract with Ryan Kent, one of the Professional Football A Team players, has been terminated by mutual agreement.

“We present it to the public.”

Kent was previously close to signing for Lazio before a move fell through, while it’s also reported that he turned down proposals from England and Saudi Arabia.

Leeds United are known admirers of Kent, who played his best football under Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
