Local roundup: Yakima Valley volleyball sweeps Walla Walla

West Valley graduate Kaitlyn Leaverton led the way with 13 kills for Yakima Valley in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 sweep of visiting Walla Walla at Sherar Gym Wednesday night.

Leaverton added nine digs and Joleen Jaeger contributed 40 assists for the No. 7 Yaks, who bounced back from a four-set loss to No. 4 Treasure Valley last Friday. Yakima Valley (3-1 NWAC East, 9-8 overall) will travel to Moses Lake to take on Big Bend next Friday.

Yaks fall at Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA — Yakima Valley stumbled after an early equalizer by Delaney Sullivan in a 6-1 loss at Walla Walla Wednesday night.

The Yaks trailed 3-1 at halftime and gave up three more goals in the second half of their second straight loss. Yakima Valley (2-3, 2-5) will play at Wenatchee Valley Saturday.
