This year many great Mid-Missouri athletes are traveling far and wide in the world of college athletics.

But some choose to stay close to home like Southern Boone graduate Chase Morris, who is attending Lincoln University in Jefferson City this fall.

And he is no stranger to people doubting his athletic aspirations at 5’8” 165lbs.

“People have always talked down on me because of my height and they never thought I was going to do anything. I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder.”, Morris reflected.

But being underestimated due to his stature has not stopped chase from juggling 3 sports at Southern Boone.

Starring on the Eagles’ football, basketball, and baseball teams. He set the school’s single game receiving record with 313 yards in the first game of his junior year.

“There were just so many records that have been set here, not just by me but my teammates. So, memorable is a good word.”, said Morris recounting his high school career.

With that chip on his shoulder, he earned a baseball scholarship to Lincoln University, and his willingness to defy the odds got him a bigger opportunity.

“Coach Reynolds reached out to me and offered me for baseball, and I was like ‘yeah I’d love to come play baseball here this is an amazing facility, is there any way you could put a word in for me for football.’ and he was like ‘yeah I got you’ and he put in a word for football, and they liked my film.”, said Morris.

Chase will be a member of the first Blue Tiger baseball team since 2016, and he has big goals at Lincoln

“Whatever records they’ve got I want them to be broken too, by Chase Morris. I feel like that’s my goal. I plan to stay there all four years and graduate from there and see where life takes me.”, Morris declared.

This summer he’s spending time in practices with Lincoln’s football team.

“It’s definitely different from high school. I feel like I’m gaining more out of it, I’m becoming a better person. They teach us how to become better men down there, coach harper is really good at that.”, said Morris.

He lives up to his name, because he is always willing to Chase his goals.
