Mike Gundy: Ollie Gordon Won't Miss Games in 2024

Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon has been a major talking point amongst college football circles since he was arrested on suspicion of DUI last week.

There was radio silence from his camp until Monday, when it was reported that the junior was expected to attend Big 12 Media Days. Shortly after that, Gordon issued a statement apologizing for the actions that led to his arrest.

“I am deeply sorry for the actions that led to my arrest on June 30th. I sincerely apologize to my family, everyone in our program, including our players, Coach Gundy, the staff, Oklahoma State University, and our fans,” Gordon said in the statement. “Regardless of the outcome of this pending investigation, I did not uphold the values I have for myself and the values of the OSU football program. I am committed to learning and growing from this mistake and I will work to earn back the trust of those who I have disappointed. Thank you.”

Ahead of his star running back’s appearance in Las Vegas today, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy addressed Gordon’s status heading into the 2024 season and left little room for questioning how the arrest will affect Gordon’s availability moving forward.

According to Pete Thamel, Gundy told ESPN that Gordon is “going to play,” and said that the Cowboys will discuss an internal punishment, but that he wouldn’t miss any games.

He also added that the decision to bring Gordon to Big 12 Media Days was, in part, to hold him accountable for his actions.

Per News9 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Gordon was pulled over on Interstate 35 south of Oklahoma City after a trooper says Gordon was going 82 in a 65 and swerving through traffic. A probable cause affidavit says the trooper who pulled Gordon over spotted a half-full bottle of vodka and a half-full bottle of tequila.

OHP says Gordon had a blood alcohol content of .11 and .10 when he was tested at jail. The legal limit in the state of Oklahoma is .08.

Gordon was named a unanimous All-American, the Doak Walker Award winner and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year after running for 1,732 yards and 21 TDs in the season. He had more than 250 scrimmage yards against Kansas, West Virginia and Cincinnati, the only FBS player in the past 10 years to do so in three straight games.

The Preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year will join teammates QB Alan Bowman, LB Nick Martin, and LB Collin Oliver as representatives for the Cowboys today.

The Pokes were picked to finish third in the 2024 Preseason Big 12 Media Poll and will open up their season against South Dakota State on August 31.
