Mike Gundy to College Football Agents: 'Quit Asking For More Money'

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy has never shied away from sharing his opinion, and on Thursday, this was the case again for the Cowboys head coach.

Gundy called out college football agents when addressing the media and provided fans with an incredible quote about their role in the offseason.

“There’s no negotiating now,” Gundy said. “Portal’s over. All the negotiation is history. Now we’re playing football. The business side of what we do now is to have those conversations with them. Tell your agent to quit calling us and asking for more money. It’s non-negotiable now. It’ll start again in December.”

Two of the largest changes in college football over the last few years revolve around offseason discussions. With NIL negotiations at the forefront of the new era, it should be no surprise that the transfer portal continues to break records for total entries each season.

Gundy and the Cowboys utilized the portal significantly less than most teams in the Big 12, adding eight transfers, the second-fewest players added this offseason (Iowa State, 7). Of the eight additions, Gundy targeted specific skill groups like pass catchers, running backs, and key players on the defensive side of the ball.

While some coaches tend to get tongue-tied when discussing NIL, the transfer portal, or other modern CFB revolutions, Big 12 fans can always count on Mike Gundy to make his stances known.

Oklahoma State kicks off the upcoming season on Saturday, August 31st, vs. the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
