EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) – The new-look Blugolds men’s basketball coaching staff is now complete.

Head coach Zach Malvik announced the hiring of Adam Smith and Nate Peterson as assistant coaches on Friday. All three are entering their first seasons with UW-Eau Claire in 2024.

“I’m really excited to be adding both Coach Smith and Coach Peterson to our staff,” Malvik said in a release. “Both of these guys bring important qualities that I was looking for in assistant coaches when putting this staff together. They are great at building relationships and they really care about the development of our student-athletes both on and off the court.”

Smith comes to Eau Claire after three seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers. He was a graduate assistant from 2021-23 before serving as Video and Operations Analyst last season. He was a member of UW’s 2022 Big Ten Conference regular season championship and the Badgers’ NCAA Tournament teams in 2022 and 2024. Smith has also spent time at University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Peterson spent the last two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes as a graduate assistant. He helped Colorado win a school-record 26 wins last season, which was capped by two NCAA Tournament wins.

UWEC hired Malvik in April. The Blugolds will play the 2024-25 season inside the new Sonnentag Center.
