There are nine 2-0 teams left standing after Week 2 as the Philadelphia Eagles missed their chance to join that group following their 22-21 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football.” Among those at the top of the heap are the Saints, who can’t seem to stop scoring and the defending champion Chiefs, who beat another AFC contender on the last play of the game. Kansas City, however, lost running back Isiah Pacheco for the game and his ankle injury, along with an ankle injury for Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, headline the biggest injuries coming out of Sunday in Week 2.
Chiefs add Kareem Hunt after Pacheco injury
The Chiefs are 2-0 and they’ve done it the hard way, beating the Ravens by a toe on opening night and walking off with a Harrison Butker 51-yard field goal in Week 2, but that win over Cincinnati could wind up being more about what Kansas City lost in that game.
After 19 carries for 90 yards, and five catches for 21 more yards, Pacheco exited with what head coach Andy Reid said was an ankle injury.
On Sunday evening, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that Pacheco left the stadium on crutches and in a walking boot. He was later diagnosed with a fractured right fibula and is expected to miss at least two months.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs struck a deal with Kareem Hunt to sign him to their practice squad, according to multiple reports.
Hunt visited with the Chiefs and worked out with them on Tuesday morning. It’s unclear how long he will be on the practice squad, but Hunt will likely work his way into the rotation shortly.
Hunt spent the last five seasons in Cleveland, and he ran for 411 yards and nine touchdowns last season with the franchise. Hunt has been a free agent so far this fall after his last one-year deal with the Browns expired after the 2023 season.
Cooper Kupp out for ‘extended period’
The Rams could be in some major trouble at the wide receiver position after Cooper Kupp left Sunday’s blowout loss to the Cardinals with an ankle injury. Head coach Sean McVay said Monday that Kupp will be out for “an extended period of time.” It’s unclear if he will land on injured reserve, or how long he’ll be sidelined.
Losing Kupp for any length of time, however, will be a huge blow with Puka Nacua already expected to miss 5-7 weeks with a PCL injury.
The 2-0 Steelers are expecting to have Justin Fields at quarterback again as Russell Wilson continues to recover from a calf injury.
“We’re readying ourselves around Justin,” Tomlin said Tuesday. “We’ll stay in that mindset until something happens. Hypotheticals are a waste of time.”
Through two games, Fields has thrown for 273 yards and one touchdown with a 94.4 quarterback rating.

Tua lands on IR
After sustaining his latest concussion last week against the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins officially placed Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve on Tuesday. Tagovailoa will now be out for at least the next four games.
The Dolphins will likely turn to backup Skylar Thompson in Tagovailoa’s absence. They also signed former Baltimore Ravens backup Tyler Huntley on Monday.
Patriots release Jalen Reagor
The Patriots released Jalen Reagor on Tuesday afternoon, hours after he made a cryptic social media post suggesting he wasn’t happy with his role in New England.
Reagor, a former first-round draft pick, signed a one-year extension with the Patriots in March. He didn’t make their 53-man roster, and instead re-signed with their practice squad last month. He has not played in a game yet this season.
Justin Fields to start again for Steelers
With Russell Wilson limited again this week, the Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to go with Justin Fields on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fields has led the Steelers to a 2-0 start this season while Wilson, who landed in Pittsburgh this past offseason, recovers from a calf injury. It’s still unclear how long Wilson will be sidelined.
Giants add K Greg Joseph with Graham Gano injured
On the first play of the Giants’ loss to the Commanders on Sunday kicker Graham Gano strained his right hamstring. Punter Jamie Gillan took over kicking duties for the remainder of the game
The New York Giants are signing my client Greg Joseph to their active roster from the Detroit Lions p-squad. 7-yr vet kicked for the Vikings the past 3 seasons and holds NFL record for game-winners in a season (5), Vikings record for longest FG (61 yds), & led NFL in TB% in ’21.
Hunt will begin on the practice squad. Isiah Pacheco is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks with a fractured right fibula.
Hunt got his start with the Chiefs, who selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He had a breakout rookie season in his first campaign, too, after he ran for a league-high 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns while earning a Pro Bowl nod. The Chiefs released him in November 2018, however, after a video surfaced that allegedly showed Hunt physically pushing and kicking a woman on the ground.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ‘pleased’ with running back situation.
The Cowboys are 25th in the NFL in total rushing yards through two weeks. Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle each have 56 yards on the ground. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is next with 25 rushing yards and quarterback Dak Prescott has 15.
Dalvin Cook remains on the team’s practice squad.

“We were pleased…We could’ve had some better protection with our running backs…I don’t see a change that could involve [Dalvin] Cook this week.”#DallasCowboys
Steelers prepping for Justin Fields to start Week 3
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team is in the “same posture” when it comes to their quarterback situation this week. Russell Wilson (calf) will be a limited participant in practice with week as Justin Fields prepares for another week as the team’s starter.

It doesn’t seem like the Cowboys defense is on the same page after their blowout 44-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer didn’t think it was an effort issue, they simply got beat.
Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer on yesterday’s loss: “I don’t really think it was an effort issue. That team beat us off the snap quite a few times. … We didn’t get moving quick enough. … I just got to do a better job.” pic.twitter.com/foPV8qkb3H
The Cowboys’ best defensive player, however, said the exact opposite.
Micah Parsons on his @BleacherReport podcast on the Cowboys’ 44-19 loss to the Saints: “The effort was not there by all 11. … You have a standard … we didn’t uphold that standard. … I’m determined to get this thing right.” pic.twitter.com/auymquUq0K
The San Francisco 49ers have lost another star for the foreseeable future. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel will miss a few weeks due to a calf strain, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced on Monday. Specifics on his timeline to return are not yet known.
Samuel had a team-high 110 receiving yards on eight catches in the 49ers’ loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
Cooper Kupp out for ‘extended period’
The Los Angeles Rams will be without wide receiver Cooper Kupp for “an extended period of time” after he went down with an ankle injury in their loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
It’s unclear how long Kupp will be out or if he will land on IR.

Panthers HC Dave Canales elaborates on Bryce Young benching
The Panthers have reportedly seen enough from Bryce Young and will bench him in favor of Andy Dalton. Rookie head coach Dave Canales addressed the media on the matter Monday. It’s unclear what role team owner David Tepper played in the move.
It looks like Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is going to be out for an extended period. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Pacheco fractured his fibula against the Bengals on Sunday.

Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown appears to have avoided serious injury after leaving near the very end of Detroit’s 20-16 loss to the Buccaneers.
Despite being hobbled during Sunday’s game, Lions WR Amon-Ra initially was determined to have only a contusion and cramping, per source.
It’s been just two games, but the Saints are looking good. How good? They’ve scored 91 total points thus far, and according to NFL.com, the only other team since the 1970 merger to score that many points in two games is the 2009 Saints. And the 2009 Saints? They happened to win the Super Bowl that year.
Running back Alvin Kamara was responsible for more than half the points the Saints scored against the Cowboys on Sunday. He contributed four touchdowns to their 44-19 drubbing of Dallas, and looks more like his younger self than ever before.
