Former One Direction singer Liam Payne was found dead outside a hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday.
Argentine police said the 31-year-old fell from the balcony of the third-floor room where he was staying.
Distraught fans gathered outside the hotel Wednesday night.
In a statement, police said they were called to the hotel in the capital’s Palermo neighborhood where they were notified of a quote, “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”
The hotel manager said he heard a loud noise at the back of the hotel.
When police arrived they found that a man had fallen over the balcony in his room.
Emergency workers confirmed the death of the British singer, who was reportedly found in the hotel’s interior patio.
In this video, authorities can be seen removing Payne’s body from the hotel.

Earlier on Wednesday, Payne had appeared to post on Snapchat what are presumed to be the last videos of him alive.
“Morning, everybody.”
“Today we ride. We’re going to ride some horses.”

The “For You” singer rose to global fame as part of the since-disbanded pop band One Direction.
The group broke up in 2016 as its members pursued different projects including solo careers.
Payne had on Oct. 2 attended the Buenos Aires concert of his former bandmate Niall Horan.
The musician has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and using alcohol to cope with the pressures of fame.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel last year, he spoke about having given up alcohol and thanked supporters for sticking with him through difficult times.
Neither Payne’s record label Republic Records, nor its owner Universal Music Group could immediately be reached for comment.
