But Mahomes, 28, maintains strong ties to Texas after plenty of personal milestones and sporting success there.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar is often seen cheering on the Dallas Mavericks or Dallas Stars.

Last weekend, the Chiefs quarterback received a standing ovation when he watched a Mavs playoff game from court side.

That was in stark contrast to his teammate Travis Kelce, who was loudly booed when shown on the big screen while sat next to him.

When he’s not there in person, Mahomes regularly tweets his support for the NHL and NBA sides.

Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas – around a 90-minute drive east of Dallas.

He attended Whitehouse High School in nearby Whitehouse, Texas.

Mahomes’ sporting talent was clear to see from a young age in football, baseball and basketball.

Not only that, he met his future wife Brittany while at Whitehouse High.

The sporting star was a three-star college recruit and received offers from Texas Tech, Rice and Houston.

The Detroit Tigers also took a speculative shot at him by selecting him in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

But he instead chose to play college football at Texas Tech.

And Mahomes threw 93 touchdown passes in just 32 games for his college team, which caught the eye of NFL scouts.

He skipped his last year of eligibility in 2017 and instead opted for the NFL Draft.

Since earning the Chiefs starting spot, the former No 10 overall pick has never failed to reach at least the AFC Championship Game.

His three Super Bowl wins in four appearances at age 28 put him on course to challenge Tom Brady’s haul of seven rings.

Outside of NFL season, Mahomes spends a lot of time at his $4m summer home in Westlake, Texas.

By the time his NFL career is done, Mahomes may just be the greatest to ever play the game.

He can likely count on having the freedom of Kansas City after the success he’s brought the region.

And it seems he’ll always feel well at home in Texas as well.
