The Queen has pledged not to buy any new clothes made from real fur in a letter to an animal rights charity.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta), an animal rights charity, was sent a letter from Buckingham Palace revealing that the Queen “will not procure any new fur garments”. The letter says: “This comes with the Queen’s warmest wishes.”

The International Fur Federation, which represents the fur trade, said that the royal family “should not be placed under pressure from animal activists”.
