The Baltimore Ravens unveiled a new alternate helmet Tuesday, months before the 2024 NFL season. The new helmet is purple instead of the traditional black helmet the franchise is known for, and it features a front-facing Raven on the side.

Baltimore becomes the latest franchise to take advantage of the NFL’s updated uniform policy that allows teams to have two alternate helmets. The league revised its uniform policy in April to allow teams to add a third helmet design, with the additional design offered to teams going through a re-design process for the 2024 season and open to all teams for the 2025 season. The league updated its uniform policy in 2022 to allow teams to have a second helmet shell color.

The Ravens’ new helmet also features gold details and drew rave reviews from current and former players, as well as fans.

“This is badass, man,” Ravens tight end Mark Andrews said in a promo video released by the team.

His sentiments were cosigned by other team members, including receiver Zay Flowers, who said: “This is the one right here.”

The Ravens join the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions as teams that have unveiled new helmets this offseason.

Detroit unveiled an alternate blue helmet as opposed to their traditional silver helmet. The Vikings released images of their “Winter Warrior” uniform that features the first white helmet in team history. The Broncos also added an alternate white helmet to their new wardrobe, and the Giants will wear a blue and red helmet as part of the throwback uniforms.
