SSI recipients get extra check in November: Here's everything you need to know

As November approaches, along with holidays and Election Day, some Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will see an unexpected financial boost.

Who is getting two SSI checks in November?

Around 7 million beneficiaries of SSI, a program for disabled adults and low-income seniors, will receive an extra check next month due to how the calendar aligns.

Normally, SSI recipients receive one payment each month.

However, in November, they will get two payments: one on November 1 and another on November 29.

The second check is actually December’s payment, sent early because December 1 falls on a Sunday.

Here’s what to expect:

  • SSI recipients will receive their November payment on Friday, November 1.
  • Those who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits, or who claimed Social Security before May 1997, will also get their Social Security check on November 1. Normally, this check would come on November 3, but since that falls on a Sunday, it will be paid early.
  • A second SSI check will arrive on Friday, November 29, representing the December payment.

In short, SSI recipients could receive two payments in November.

Though the schedule shift won’t reduce the total number of payments in the year, beneficiaries may need to adjust their budget accordingly.

For those who only receive Social Security retirement benefits, there is no change to the payment schedule.

These payments will follow the usual schedule based on birth dates, falling on November 13, 20, or 27.

Additionally, a modest 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has been applied to Social Security payments for 2025, reflecting lower inflation compared to previous years.

If you receive SSI, make sure to mark these important dates on your calendar and prepare for the extra check this November!
