The King and Queen were in Wales on Thursday to visit the Welsh parliament celebrating its 25th anniversary. Queen Camilla chose a thoughtful piece of jewellery with ties to the late Queen.

Queen Camilla chose to wear a diamond and gold leek brooch for her visit to the Senedd Cymru. The diamond brooch in the shape of a leek features yellow gold around the roots.

The brooch is similar to Queen Elizabeth II’s Welsh Guards Leek Brooch, which the late monarch frequently wore when visiting Wales.

Queen Camilla wore the leek brooch with her four-strand pearl and diamond choker necklace, and a light pink day dress and wide-brimmed hat.

Queen Elizabeth also wore pink on her last visit to the Senedd with Camilla in October 2021 and The Queen’s choice for this latest event was another sweet nod.

The leek has long been considered the national symbol of Wales. According to legend, King Cadwallader ordered his troops to wear leeks in battle to distinguish themselves from invading Saxon forces. The leek is referenced as a Welsh tradition in William Shakespeare’s Henry V.
