The man accused in the apparent assassination attempt of Donald Trump at a golf course in Florida left behind a note saying that he intended to kill the former president and maintained in his car a handwritten list of dates and venues where Trump was to appear, the Department of Justice has revealed.
The new allegations were included in a detention memo filed ahead of a hearing Monday at which the Justice Department was expected argue that Ryan Wesley Routh should be detained as the case moves forward.
Meanwhile, Trump said he won’t run for president again in 2028 if he loses to Kamala Harris in November. On Sunday Trump was asked if he could see himself running again in 2028 if he loses, to which he told news broadcaster Sinclair’s Full Measure: “No, I don’t.” He added: “That will be it.”
A new poll from The New York Times shows him leading in Georgia and North Carolina, and in Arizona by five points.
The poll, conducted from September 17-21, found the race is closest in North Carolina, where Trump currently sits at 49 percent and Harris at 47 percent. In Georgia, the poll puts Trump four points ahead of Harris at 49 percent to 45 percent.

The Florida man accused of a botched September 15 assassination attempt against Donald Trump sketched out his plan in a handwritten note that offered a six-figure payout to anyone who could finish off the former president.
In the missive, which was shared with the FBI by a “civilian witness,” according to a Monday court filing by federal prosecutors, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, seemed to predict he would ultimately be unsuccessful at killing Trump.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you,” read the note, which began, “Dear World.”

The man accused in the apparent assassination attempt of Donald Trump at a golf course in Florida left behind a note saying that he intended to kill the former president and maintained in his car a handwritten list of dates and venues where Trump was to appear, the Justice Department said Monday.
The new allegations were included in a detention memo filed ahead of a hearing Monday at which the Justice Department was expected argue that 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh should remain locked up as the case moves forward. The details are meant to buttress prosecutors’ assertions that Routh had set out to kill Trump before the plot was thwarted by a Secret Service agent who spotted a rifle poking out of shrubbery on the West Palm Beach golf course where Trump was playing.
The note, addressed “Dear World,” was placed in a box that was dropped at the home of an unidentified person who contacted law enforcement officials after last Sunday’s arrest. It appears to have been based on the premise that the assassination attempt would be ultimately unsuccessful.
The box, which also contained ammunition, a metal pipe and other items, was not opened by the person until after Routh was taken into custody. The person who received the box and contacted law enforcement was not identified in the Justice Department’s detention memo.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” the note said, according to prosecutors.
An attorney for Routh didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment Monday morning.

Donald Trump said he doesn’t plan to run in 2028 if he loses this November.
“That will be it,” Trump said in an interview with TV news broadcaster Sinclair’s Full Measure. “I don’t see that at all. I think hopefully we’re gonna be successful [in 2024].”

Trump attempted assassination suspect Ryan Routh due in court today
Donald Trump’s suspected would-be assassin, Ryan Routh, is due to appear in court today.
Routh is being held behind bars in Florida after Secret Service agents allegedly thwarted a second assassination attempt on the former president at his West Palm Beach golf club on 15 September.
He is charged with federal counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession and receipt of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The charges relate to previous felonies in North Carolina in 2002 and 2010, which mean Routh is banned from owning a firearm.
At a hearing today, prosecutors will argue Routh should stay behind bars until trial. He has not yet entered a plea.
The hearing is scheduled to take place at 11am ET.

Donald Trump’s former debate coach predicted on Sunday that the ex-president would accept CNN’s invitation for a debate in the coming weeks.
Chris Christie appeared as part of the political panel on ABC’s This Week on Sunday where the former New Jersey governor explained that Trump “needs” another go at debating Democratic rival Kamala Harris given her successful performance against him at the September presidential debate in Philadelphia.
Harris has already accepted the October 23 debate proposal, while Trump has said it is “too late” for another match-up.
