UFL Releases Statement on Passing of Memphis Showboats WR Diondre Overton

Yesterday reports from the the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office surfaced that Memphis Showboats WR Diondre Overton was shot and killed during an early Saturday morning shooting in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This is horrific news for friends family and fans and now the United Football League (UFL) has put out a statement on this sad situation.

The United Football League and the Memphis Showboats are heartbroken and mourn the tragic loss of Diondre Overton. Our hearts and prayers go out to Diondre’s family, friends and teammates. We send our sincere condolences during this difficult time.”

Overton was only 26, but had quite the career in spring football. He was selected by the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League (USFL) in the 16th round of the 2022 USFL draft. In his two seasons with the stars he tallied 533 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Diondre Overton was signed by the Pittsburgh Maulers in the offseason, but the team was dissolved in the aftermath of the USFL/XFL merger.

Prior to that, Overton played for Clemson from 2016 to 2019, totaling 52 passes for 777 yards and 7 TDs over his college career.
