Wednesday recap: Whitman College’s women’s soccer team comes up short

The only goal Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Walla Walla came during the 78th minute of an NCAA Division III women’s soccer match, and that wound up being the difference as Whitman College’s team suffered a setback with the Blues falling to Whitworth University on James Hayner Field.

Defeat made the Blues league record so far this season 5-4-2, ranking them fourth of the nine teams, with their overall mark at 8-5-2.

Among highlights for the Blues were goalies Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky and Seanee Still taking turns helping their defense keep the game close to the end as they combined to chalk up three saves.

SPOKANE 1, WALLA WALLA COMMUNITY COLLEGE 0 — The Northwest Athletic Conference East Region saw the only goal come in the 23rd minute, the third-place Warriors (11-2-4) coming up short despite goalie Viviana Ochoa helping their defense keep the game close to the end as she made two saves on the WWCC pitch.

WHITWORTH 3, WHITMAN 1 — The fourth-place Blues (8-5-2) were upended despite Sawyer Valero setting up Jacob Burrill for their goal in the 84th minute at an NWC match up in Spokane.

WWCC 0, SPOKANE 0— The second-place Warriors (12-2-4) battled to a draw with goalie Aaron Lowry helping their defense record the shutout as he made four aces at their NWAC East match in Walla Walla.

SPOKANE 3, WWCC 1 — The seventh-place Warriors (3-15) came up short with scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-20 and 26-24 at an NWAC East match in Walla Walla at the Dietrich Activity Center.
