The Nepal Cabinet Thursday decided to recall 11 ambassadors, including Dr Shankar Sharma, who is  serving in India.

The decision to recall the ambassadors was taken three months after the Nepali Congress was replaced by the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) in the alliance government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).

Those recalled, apart from Dr Sharma, include Sridhar Khatri (US), Gyan Chanda Acharya (UK ) and those serving in North  Korea, Qatar, Spain, Denmark, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Portugal.

Nepal’s ambassador to Beijing,  Bishnua Pukar Shrestha, a Maoist leader, remains unaffected by the decision.

According to sources, most of the new appointees will be from the CPM-UML, the largest party in the coalition government.

According to another Cabinet decision, Prime Minister Prachanda will attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi.
