CHICAGO (WKRC/WJLA/CNN Newsource) – A WNBA player said her salary from the league isn’t enough to pay her rent.
Angel Reese, a star player for the Chicago Sky, revealed on Instagram Live that her WNBA salary falls short of covering her rent expenses. Reese said she pays $8,000 per month for rent, totaling $96,000 annually, while her WNBA salary is only $73,000.
“I just hope y’all know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think it pays one of my bills, literally,” said Reese on Instagram Live.
Earlier in 2024, Reese told ESPN that her salary was merely a “bonus” in addition to her endorsement deals. She has partnerships with brands such as Reebok, Beats by Dre, Airbnb and Tampax, among others.
Reese has also joined a new three-on-three basketball league called Unrivaled. The average salary for the eight-week tournament is reportedly $250,000.
ESPN also reported that Reese’s teammate Kamila Cardoso travels aboard to play with the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association in the offseason to supplement her salary.
